"Allen D. Allen is a physicist and AIDS researcher. He is a member of the American Physical Society, the Federation of American Scientists, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a founding member of the Editorial Board of Physics Essays." (I'm also a member of ASCAP and the NRA but no one wants to talk about that.) I'm the author of scores of published papers in the peer-review science and medical journals, and President of CytoDyn of New Mexico, Inc. My new novelette, LAST DAY, a fact-based space thriller, is available from Amazon.com and Barnesandnobel.com"

"Occam's Razor is a very basic principle that helps scientists chose between alternative ways of explaining experimental data.

All scientific theories start out with some unproven assumptions. Occam's razor states that scientific theories should use as few assumptions as possible to explain as much phenomena as possible.

For example, you can use Kepler's laws to explain how the planets move around in the solar system. But then you need another set of assumptions to explain why arrows shot in the air curve down and eventually come to rest on the ground. Yet a third set of assumptions is needed to explain why apples fall from trees. Occam's Razor states that Newton's three laws of motion are a better approach because just these three assumptions account for all of the above and a lot more."
